Groovle.com was sued

The online startup Groovle was sued by Google for what seems to be confusion of domain names from what Google had stated. It appears that Google tried to take over the domain and lost.

The National Arbitration Foundation found that Groovle was not in any violations and was seen as a distinct enough domain that the suit was dismissed.

If you never had tried Groovle service before head on over to www.groovle.com and take a look. They offer Google search with a customized background image of your choice or you can use a premade template. Of course the initial home page is the only thing that is skinned and the rest of the searches will be the regular Google format.

There is also www.webmynd.com which skins the homepage and results as well.

Qik for iPhone - all versions

It looks like the folks at Qik are good at releasing live streaming apps, and the one they just released is working great on the iPhone 2g ( that's what I use). It has great framerate 7fps at 352x288). I have tried it several times with the edge network since we don't have 3g here at my locale and over wifi. Both work very well.

I would say get the app while it's free. Because I would definitely pay for this app. I like it so far over Ustream since the URL is easier to tweet or send via email/txt message and the quality is very decent for first gen iPhone.

Is it the ugly duck? Hell no. It's the Blackswan!

Ok, where do I begin! Oh I know the iPhone is the best device known to man. Ok maybe I am stretching the truth with that line. However, I will be glad to say the iPhone does rock and there is an iPhone app for just about everything.

Except for one of my most used services. Google Voice. With all the various issues as to why AT&T or Apple removed the app. I have been disappointed.

Until now!!!

Meet Blackswan. From the looks of this webapp. That's right webapp. It looks very cool, and runs on HTML5. Once my beta sign up is approved (hopefully), I'll have an update. In the meantime check it out.

No iPhones for yorkies.

For no apparent reason, AT&T has yanked the option to buy iPhones from their NYC website. I wonder if it's the crappy service app that has created the stir. . Now that sucks.

More to come I'm sure.

UPDATE.
It appears that the iPhone is back on sale and back in NYC Metro area. We may never know why, but at least it's back.

Operation Chokehold!

The fake Steve Jobs is sick and tired of AT&T, that he wants to execute a plan to bring the service to it's knees.

Here is what he has to say...

The call to action:

Subject: Operation Chokehold On Friday, December 18, at noon Pacific time, we will attempt to overwhelm the AT&T data network and bring it to its knees. The goal is to have every iPhone user (or as many as we can) turn on a data intensive app and run that app for one solid hour. Send the message to AT&T that we are sick of their substandard network and sick of their abusive comments. The idea is we’ll create a digital flash mob. We’re calling it in Operation Chokehold. Join us and speak truth to power!

Will you unleash your digital whip and wreak havoc on the network.

The City of Angels Chooses Google...

It seems the City of Angels (Los Angeles) has chosen to run Google Apps for its 34,000 employees instead of the Novel GroupWise system. This information comes from Google’s Blog Post, and Google can be excited that it is getting this sort of collaboration with big cities. It appears that LA evaluated some 14 different email technologies and Google Apps was the clear winner. Although Los Angles is making this huge leap towards cloud based storage, it seems other cities have already been using Google apps such as: Washington D.C. and Orlando, FL.

This deal closes in at $7.2 million dollars and is likely to prove worthwhile in cost savings for the City of Los Angeles. However, the question is. Can having the cloud based services pose a security risk, or proofs of concept that cloud based services are emerging in the data forefront?

Most people know what Mac OS X, Windows, and maybe Linux is, but there is a new OS in town (Linux based). Say hello to jolicloud. The new public pre beta is available for download and testing. From what others are saying it's pretty equal to Chrome OS by Google. So if you need to use some bandwidth, hop on over to:

Crappy Service? There's an app for that.

Lets say your driving along talking to your wife, mother, dad, etc... And the call drops and your still talking away. Hello, are you there? Nope! Now you need to wait and see if they call you are you call them. It sucks to play this phone tag game, so if you experience crappy service in the area your in with the iPhone and it totally pissed you off. Make sure to get the AT&T app and report where it happened. This can be very useful so maybe AT&T can get better coverage in rural and other bad signal areas. I don't have much problem in my location but many other users have bad things to say about AT&T.

Look for:

AT&T Mark the Spot. In the app store. Rated #6 as of this writing.

Goggles for Google?

Google has released a really cool app for android that uses the devices camera lense to search a multitude of diiferent businesses, products, books, movies, business cards, bar codes, artworks, and many more.

Although the search functions aren't perfect, they do offer a unique way to search for the above items. Android definitely has a step above iPhone in this one. What's up Google! Where is the iPhone version.

No Family at Microsoft.

12-07-2009

Microsoft yanked its $150 Windows 7 Family Pack from the U.S. market last week, saying that the limited time offer had expired.

The page dedicated to the Family Pack now reads: "Thank you for your interest in Windows 7. The Windows 7 Family Pack offer has ended."

Some sellers have taken advantage of Family Pack's disappearance to jack up prices of their remaining copies of the three-PC upgrade by as much as 90%.

R.I.P. - Barrel Man

The Barrel Man (real name Tim McKernan) was a superfan of the Denver Broncos. He attended every Broncos home game for thirty years at both Mile High Stadium and INVESCO Field at Mile High wearing nothing but an orange barrel that covered his torso and a cowboy hat. His costume was reminiscent of rodeo clowns (or barrel men) who serve as a distraction to animals in the rodeo arena in order to protect riders who have been thrown.

He attended Broncos games in his immodest barrel for 30 years in all types of weather. McKernan retired after the 2007 season at the age of 67.[1]

McKernan had serious health issues in 2003, after an abdominal aneurysm ruptured. Since that time he has been restricted by doctors to wearing his barrel for one half of play, and only when the temperature is above freezing.[2]

Retired after 40 years as a mechanic for United Airlines, McKernan and his wife are based in Gunnison, Colorado but spend their offseasons traveling in their recreational vehicle. Due to the space constraints of living in an RV, McKernan sold his Super Bowl XXXII barrel for $30,000. The barrel, autographed by 49 Broncos from their first Super Bowl winning team, was sold to a Black Hawk, Colorado casino. McKernan gave 10 percent of his profits to Jubilee House, battered women's shelter in Gunnison.[3][4]

Tim passed away on December 5, 2009.

Free iPhone apps during the month of December

Today's app is Samurai-Way of the Warrior. A very cool app that features in my opinion one if the coolest first person slashers for the iPhone. It had great graphics and a really nice plot.

Microsoft issues patches

Microsoft today said it will deliver six security updates on Tuesday, including one that will patch a vulnerability in Internet Explorer (IE) the company admitted only last week.

The updates will patch a total of 12 flaws in Windows, IE and Microsoft Office, the company said in a follow-up entry to its security response center's blog.

At the top of the patch list, even Microsoft's own, will be an update for IE 5.01, IE6, IE7 and IE8 that has been pegged as "critical," the firm's highest severity rating in its four-step scoring system.
